Sondre Lerche - Two Way Monologue

Sondre Lerche learnt guitar at 8, wrote his first song at 14 and was signed to Virgin 3 years later. Add this to the comparisons with Rufus Wainwright (come on, nobody can be compared to Rufus Wainwright!) and it’s enough reason to hate him from the start. However, upon listening, Lerche’s inspirations (namely Steely Dan) seem a far more fitting choice of soundalikes. With honeyed jazz vocals and a healthy disregard for keys and time signatures, the tunes range from acoustic and chilled out, with running scales of melody, to jangly pop songs and lyrics worthy of Brendan Benson.
In fact, if you can get away from the niggling, and highly disturbing, fact that Lerche bears more than a passing resemblance (vocally and prodigally) to Jamie Cullum, then you might find yourself blindly reaching for this CD in the throes of a Sunday morning hangover.
