Simple Plan - Still Not Getting Any
Still not getting any? Well, I’m not surprised! It’s hard to listen seriously to a band that actually sound like Busted and claim that they are sick of being lumped into a category. I am however, surprised to find out that these guys are actually not young teenagers from Surrey with short trousers and guitars hanging round their knees but fully grown men from Canada! No doubt they play the guitars the same way but Jesus! If you’re trying to be yourself and not be lumped into a music genre you should at least try not to sound so much like any other bands!
The first 2 tracks from this album ‘Shut Up’ and ‘Welcome To My Life’, although catchy, are just too embarrassingly similar not only to each other but to so much American music out there. And if it couldn’t get any worse than being compared to Busted, it even sounds similar to Avril Lavigne! I’m sure some impressionable kids out there can really aspire to this sort of thing but for us poor souls who are seeking for a breath of fresh air in the music business, it’s just all very tedious.
There are cheesy nu metal ballads on this album along with some cringe worthy, predictable lyrics. At least there is a small sign of hope in the form of track ‘Me Against The World’ which has a bit of raw rock and anger in it but, without this, the album would have had no stars at all so it’s no great merit. I certainly wouldn’t even listen to this album again and feel that Simple Plan should leave this type of music to Blink 182, who at least were a bit fun and took the piss out of themselves a little.
