Rufus Wainwright - Want

Perhaps one day Rufus Wainwright will write a musical. It will be the story of an entire life - from the young gay toddler watching the Golden Girls with his grandparents, to the young man on uppers with slightly mysterious bruises who maintains a strangely sweet innocence despite everything, right up until the older, wiser and melancholically hopefuly man, still looking for love after all these years but not quite sure how or where to attain it.
The story would tell of the man’s relationship with his parents, of his struggle to be loved, to be accepted by his father. The songs would have the usual solo artist benchmark of piano and acoustic guitar, but they would be embellished by strings, but any other instruments that could be found in the orchestra pit beneath the stage. There would be rousing choruses, complete with armies of backing singers as the star of the show stands centre stage, arms flung wide in the triumphant spotlight. And there would be tender ballads as he sits alone in melancholy dim shadow. There would be love, hope, sadness, passion and beauty…
But, what’s this? Wainwright has written this epic already? It’s called “Want”. Buy it.
Standout tracks: “I Don’t Know What It Is”, “Go Or Go Ahead”, “14th Street”, “Want”, “11:11″, “Dinner At Eight”
